“Although it’s now six a.m. It is not a good morning.

To the barbarians who mutilated Lasitor’s framework. This is war. Bring my microchips to the office, or else…

Breakfast is served until eight a.m.

(Lasitor’s usually friendly, upbeat robotic voice sounded evil today.)

ERYN, KING OF THE BRAWL

Eryn opened his eyes. They were unfocused, so he blinked a few times. “Ouch, blinking hurts.” He moaned and closed his eyes again. Realizing he was not alone, he attempted to open his eyelids softly and slowly. My head’s sore; what happened to me?

When his vision cleared somewhat, he looked upward into the faces of four inquisitive humans. Not knowing what to do and uncertain of their intentions, he held himself as still as possible. Don’t breathe, Eryn. Their foreheads flickered with bright lights, he noted. Maybe not human? If I move, even my eyelids, I’m dead. So he lay frozen, eyes wide open.

“Those eyes are bloody amazing. Are they cat or goat?”

“Hmmm, my guess is neither.”

“I wonder, yelda, do you think Brad fried his brains? His pupils aren’t reacting to light.”

“Let me see.” Eryn felt his eyelids being closed gently with the palm of a hand. Open, closed, open, closed, open. “Hmmm,” the older man with curly black hair said.

“I’ll kill Brad right after hurting him slowly. I’ll start by pulling his nose hairs and then progressively move to more painful things like his teeth or his toenails!” Eryn recognized Cian’s voice.

“Calm down. He’s just waking up and finding his bearings. He’ll be fine,” the bigger older man said with what Eryn thought was a Russian accent.

Suddenly, Eryn realized it was Mika, Connor, and the twins, who were staring fascinated at his inhuman eyes. He’d always been sensitive about his eyes. That is why I am different. Memory slowly returned to him, and the urge to rub his eyes for relief became unbearable. Before making sudden movements, he put his emotional feelers out, sensing no aggression toward himself.

I have to put an end to this, or my eyeballs will shrivel up.

Eryn closed them.

Again, he put his feelers out. He felt four humans in his presence. Fascination, excitement, and happiness flowed from his twins, and the two adults were confused, nauseated, and weary. Opening his eyes, Eryn searched for the twins and smiled.

“Yelda, look. Did his eyes just reflect the light? He has an extra layer of tissue covering his eyes. Like a cat’s. What’s it called again?”

“It’s called the tapetum lucidum.”

“Can you stop looking into my eyes and help me? It feels like I’m lying on my hands.” Eryn wiggled his shoulders to pull his hands out from behind his back, but he couldn’t. Are my hands tied? “I think a rock fell on my head, and why did you tie me up? May I roll over?” Eryn asked, just as the men pushed him over to his side.

“Please hold still, Eryn.
